AGL Supports the Mission of Mobility with Dikembe Mutombo Foundation and Women Orthopaedist Global Outreach

Dikembe Mutombo, with the help of the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation, opened the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital in the Congo, where he was born, in honor of his mother, in 2006. The hospital became the first modern medical facility in the area in over 40 years. The last two years AGL has helped fund and ship cargo to the hospital in the Congo. The first year, we shipped donated medical supplies and a van donated by the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation.

This past year we helped fund and ship medical supplies for the hospital for the Women Orthopedist Global Outreach (WOGO) and the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation. In a small way, AGL was able to help in the mission of mobility. We shipped 2 containers that included medical equipment required for the surgeries, beds so they could perform the surgeries, walkers for after the surgeries, medications for the surgery, shoes, books and much, much more. Another container was shipped containing 2 brand new vehicles to transport the doctors and volunteers to and from the hospital each day. We also had to ship airfreight due to it being hazmat. They performed 44 knee replacements, with the help of 47 people in the WOGO group which included 6 orthopedic surgeons.

For me and Trisha, it is cool to see all the cargo and equipment that was shipped being used for a greater cause and to be a small part of it. I am thankful for Trisha’s export expertise, as there were a few bumps in the road but we were able to get the cargo there before all the volunteers arrived. We have included a few pictures of the shipment at the warehouse here and then when it arrived in the Congo. Below is a video about the mission we supported, we hope you will take a look.
